Modern climate models suffer from cognitive detachment: numerical tables conceal the terrifying physical turbulence of atmospheric collapse. With Aether-09, FIELDWORK engineered an ambient spatial instrument that renders alpine wind velocities not as static contours, but as an elastic, undulating cloth suspended in digital physical space.

Lidar Topology & Micro-Oscillation Harmonics

We deployed 64 battery-less solar nodes across the Engadin valley, streaming wind azimuth and barometric gradient data over a low-frequency mesh network. The spatial engine converts this raw stream into Navier-Stokes grid approximations operating at 60 frames per second.

FIELDWORK operates at the intersection of material reality and digital plasticity. We reject the transactional web of static rectangular boxes and predictable menus. Here are the axioms guiding our practice:

AXIOM 01
The Screen is Not a Window, It is a Surface
We do not gaze through the glass into an illusionary world; we touch an illuminated plane of energized liquid crystal. Navigation should possess friction, momentum, and elasticity. When an interface yields to the hand, digital space becomes tangible.
AXIOM 02
Navigation as Excavation
Finding one's way through an archive should not feel like ordering from a cafeteria menu. It should feel like orienteering across open tundra at dusk. The visitor who wanders arrives with far greater attention than the visitor who clicks a predetermined link.
AXIOM 03
The Machine Remembers and Grieves
Every human traversal alters the environment. Visited territories must bear the subtle scars of exploration: a faint luminescent patina, an updated orbital tension, a breadcrumb of stardust. A system that resets itself completely upon reload is indifferent to human presence.

We hooked piezoelectric transducers to a series of high-refresh rate displays in the Zurich studio. As the raster sweeps across the OLED cells at 120Hz, a microscopic acoustic drone emerges around 14.4 kHz. We are now modulating screen layout density specifically to make displays sing in minor chords.
